Sajid Ali

Years in prison:
2.5
Year of crime:
2008
Year conviction was overturned:
2014

Sajid Ali was convicted of rape of a woman who he met while working as a floor-layer. On appeal, it was revealed that, perhaps as a result of the complainant changing her name, police checks before the trial failed to bring to light the fact that the claimant had made a false allegation of indecent assault five years earlier (the allegation was disproved by CCTV footage). As a result, the conviction was found to be unsafe.
