Michael Holliday

Michael Holliday was convicted of robbery, after pleading guilty to a robbery of a security vehicle at Mirza Travel in Lumb Lane in February 1995. He claimed he confessed while under the influence of drugs and pled guilty on the advice of his lawyer. On appeal, clear evidence was presented that somebody else committed the offence, and evidence showed that admissions made by Holliday were not reliable (e.g. details he gave in the admissions were wrong). The court described evidence of unsafety as “very strong indeed.” The appeal was therefore allowed (although an appeal in respect of another conviction was not allowed).
