Keith John Burnside

Years in prison:
4
Year of crime:
2000
Year conviction was overturned:
2009

Keith John Burnside was convicted of the rape of a teenager. Burnside had initially been convicted of attacking the teenager, and six years after the original conviction she told her mother she had also been raped and made a statement regarding this to the police. Burnside was subsequently convicted. On appeal, it was found that the jury had not been properly directed on the potential prejudice caused by the delay in the complaint being made against him. As a result of this, the conviction was found to be unsafe.
