Ghulam Rasool

Ghulam Rasool was arrested after he collected heroin from informant Hanif Honi at a flat under the control of customs. Hanif’s witness statement stated that he was introduced to the men who would eventually be the suppliers of the drugs, and the eventual recipient of the drugs in the UK, Rasool. After Hanif flew from Pakistan to Manchester he took the drugs to Rasool. Rasool was captured on video inspecting the packages containing the drugs. Rasool was arrested as he left the flat in possession of the drugs. In a later interview, Rasool denied knowledge of the content of the packages. He had believed he was being asked to assist in the importation of medicines. On appeal, Rasool argued that Hanif had misrepresented evidence concerning the supply chain. Evidence that Hanif had lied was introduced. The court ruled that this evidence might reasonably have affected the decision of the jury to convict, and quashed the conviction.
