George Lewis was convicted of a number of burglaries and robberies. He purportedly confessed. The investigations had been conducted by the West Midlands Serious Crime Squad and on appeal it was revealed that officers had racially abused him. The officers had also forced him to sign blank confession forms. He was refused legal representation and physically harmed. His conviction was quashed, and a retrial collapsed due to a lack of new evidence.
