Eddie Browning was convicted of the murder of a pregnant woman who was found dead on the side of the motorway. She had been attacked while making an emergency call. Mr Browning was arrested after a colleague reported that he looked like a photofit that had been issued. He resembled the picture, had a history of violence, owned a butterfly knife, and had driven from his home to Scotland on the evening of the murder. The Court of Appeal declared his conviction as unsafe because exculpatory evidence including initial descriptions of the murderers car not mentioning a C registration and an officer describing a car that did not match Mr Brownings, was not disclosed at trial.
