Derek Treadaway

Years in prison:
13
Year of crime:
1979
Year conviction was overturned:
1996

Mr Treadway was convicted of robbery of a delivery van, robbery of a post office, conspiracy to rob a van and conspiracy to rob another post office. He confessed to the crime, but his confession could not be relied upon due to concerns about police coercion (he was forced to sign a confession after being tortured). Evidence from two “supergrass” witnesses was “manifestly tainted” due to their close involvement with corrupt officers.
