James Boyle

Years in prison:
5
Year of crime:
1970-1976
Year conviction was overturned:
2009

James Boyle was convicted of the rapes of three children, based on their testimony. On appeal, the conviction was quashed on the basis that the trial judge had insinuated that witnesses could corroborate the truthfulness of their own testimony. During a retrial, one of the claimants admitted they had planned to ruin his life and career and the credibility of witnesses was undermined by inconsistencies and contradictions with earlier testimony.
