Geoffrey Long

Years in prison:
1.5
Year of crime:
1979
Year conviction was overturned:
2012

Geoffrey Long was convicted of sexual assault after his daughter accused him of rape and sexual assault. The only evidence was his daughter’s testimony. On appeal, evidence was introduced to suggest the daughter was lying. Her brother said she had drunkenly confessed the allegations were lies. At appeal, her evidence appeared increasingly weak. Long’s conviction was quashed and retrials failed.
